What’s The Thread Count?

Thread count is a widely spoken word when it comes to buying sheets. You might not be a super shopper or a person with a data analytic mind to figure out what the perfect thread count is for you, but here we are spilling some tea for you. (Obviously not on sheets).

Thread Count Explained

Thread count refers to the number of horizontal (weft) and vertical (warp) threads woven into one square inch of fabric. A higher thread count generally indicates a softer, more durable sheet, but there’s a limit to this benefit. Thread counts between 200 and 600 are commonly considered ideal for most people. However, super high thread counts over 1,000 can be a marketing gimmick, as manufacturers may achieve these numbers by twisting multiple threads together, which doesn't always translate to higher quality. Ultimately, the quality of the cotton and the finishing process are just as important as the thread count.

Benefits of Egyptian Cotton

Egyptian cotton is renowned for its exceptional quality and luxurious feel. The key benefits of Egyptian cotton include its extra-long fibres, which result in a stronger and more durable fabric that resists pilling. This type of cotton also produces a finer yarn, creating a soft and silky texture that gets even softer with each wash. Egyptian cotton sheets are highly breathable and absorbent, making them ideal for a comfortable night's sleep. Additionally, these sheets have a natural sheen and can maintain their vibrant colour over time, contributing to a lasting, premium look and feel.
